Black Hole Folks

According to Merriam-Webster (http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/black%20hole), a black hole is a celestial object that has a gravitational field so strong that light cannot escape it and that is believed to be created especially in the collapse of a very massive star. We know that light is energy, right? So Black Holes suck energy, right?

Have you ever been around people like that? Sure you have. People that seem to suck energy, even the very life, out of those around them. Black Hole Folks. They may be family, the may be co-workers, they’re out in the working world, they’re friends, they’re . . . well, you get the picture, they’re out there.

Although the definition says that black holes are believed to have been created by the collapse of a very massive star, I don’t think that’s the case of Black Hole Folks. No, I think Black Hole Folks have simply become the way they are because they’re thirsty. Thirsty for everybody’s attention, and energy. Black Hole Folks want the focus on them, all the light shined right on them. Remember black holes suck in light.

I don’t know about you, but I don’t have energy to spare. At my young age, of 55, I have just enough energy to positively spend on me, my loved ones and things I like to do. I don’t have extra energy to spend on Black Hole Folks. Do you? Are you spending (wasting) energy on Black Hole Folks? If so, you need to step back and ask yourself why.

I did some time back, and I’m better for it. I don’t need Black Hole Folks in my life, so once I identify them, I make a point to disassociate from them.

Another question one should ask, is of one’s self. “Am I a Black Hole Folk?” Do I drain others? Do I suck the life out of those around me?

When I ask myself those questions, the answer is “Sometimes.” I’m better at not being one, now than I was years ago. I try to watch myself every day, and keep my self from being a Black Hole. I really don’t want to drag people down, suck the life out of them, etc.

How about you? What do you think about Black Hole Folks? How do you deal with the Black Hole Folks that you know?
